President's Christmas Message

Dear Comrades,

It has been a difficult few years. We all have personally struggled with the negative impacts of the pandemic. However, it appears that this is behind us and we can continue into the future with
increased confidence that life is returning to normal.

The good news is that the Branch has weathered the significant slow down in the economy. We are still operating. We are considering the sale of our building and leasing another building near
by. The detail will be made available to all members prior to our next General Meeting on January 15, 2023. Please plan to attend.

On behalf of the Executive of Montgomery Branch 351 I take this opportunity to wish all of you and your families a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy new Year.

Lionel Rowe

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and a OH SO Happy New Year.

These past few years have been hard on everyone, but, on the bright side, it will make the New Year even more welcome.

Branch 351 has so many exciting opportunities and challenges, what a great time to become involved. The Board of Trustees are here to assist 351 on getting back on track, we are investigating a new location, and we are updating our regulations.

Speaking of regulations, questions have been asked about proxy voting. Several members due to age, location or physical ability, are unable to get to the Branch. Members participation means everyone and we should be able to provide a forum for maximum participation. I know it comes with additional work on the already stretched Executive but, we need the voice of the entire membership. Now having said that, Command insists that Proxy is not allowed for reasons that it can be challenged, votes can be fixed and so on. Today, trust is lost on people doing the honest thing. Measures would have to be taken to ensure the vote is from the member. Efforts to ensure that everyone has voted and that there was no campaign to secure the vote.

So no proxy voting.

I have again attached the proposed Branch regulations for your review, you may not be able to make the Special General Meeting on January 15, 2023, to vote on them but you can review them and reply to montgomerynews351@gmail.com with your comments and I will do my best to include them in the preamble prior to the vote.

An Executive meeting was held on 12 December, 2022. I am including the draft minutes for your information. I hope it helps in understanding the issues that are being dealt with.

On a lighter note, I've included the 2023 Zone Sports Calendar. We missed the cribbage but we are hosting the Euchre and I am hoping we can get members involved in the other upcoming events. So get your act together and join the fun competing within our zone, getting to know fellow legionnaires with similar interests. I know I will. What a great way to have fun, and meet new people.

i will be sending another newsletter soon, to include the minutes of the December 18, 2022 Special General Meeting.

There is a lot happening at 351, your opinion is important!

See you in the new year.
