Legion
Remembrance
banners
at the
National
War
Memorial
site in
Ottawa
On
behalf
of
National
Executive
Director
Randy
Hayley,
we
are
sharing
news
of a
series
of
Legion-branded
bilingual
banners
that
are
now
on
display
at
the
site
of
Canada’s
National
War
Memorial
in
Ottawa.
The
link
above,
will
take
you
to a
series
of
pictures
that
will
give
you
a
good
idea
as
to
their
look
and
placement.
The
content
includes:
The
history
of
the
Tomb
of
the
Unknown
Soldier
and
the
National
War
Memorial,
the
National
Remembrance
Day
Ceremony,
the
importance
of
Remembrance
-
including
ways
to
Remember
-
and
the
meaning
and
history
of
the
Poppy.
The
goals
were
education
and
awareness,
and
the
banners
are
“timeless”
in
their
content,
so
we
expect
to
make
additional
good
use
of
them.
A
little
background:
As
we
were
meeting
with
Veterans
Affairs
Canada
to
hear
of
their
plans
for
the
commemoration
of
the
25th
anniversary
of
the
Tomb
of
the
Unknown
Soldier
[1],
they
were
asked
about
including
a
banner
or
placard
that
could
explain
the
tomb’s
history.
They
kindly
offered
the
possibility
of
something
even
larger
than
we
could
have
anticipated
– 8
huge
banners,
and
the
ability
to
have
them
on
display
for
almost
2
months.
Everything
came
together
and
the
banners
were
installed
this
week.
By
chance,
when
the
attached
pictures
were
being
taken,
two
women
were
looking
at a
couple
of
the
banners,
and
one
uttered
the
word
“wow!”
while
reading
something
about
the
tomb’s
history.
An
example
of
the
positive
educational
effect
already
witnessed.
We
anticipate
many
people
from
Ottawa
and
well
beyond
its
borders
will
see
them
over
the
coming
weeks,
helping
to
fulfill
our
collective
mission
to
promote
Remembrance,
and
to
inform
Canadians
of
the
Legion’s
significant
role.
Of
course,
we
wholeheartedly
thank
Veterans
Affairs
for
having
been
afforded
this
amazing
opportunity
right
in
the
middle
of
one
of
the
most
visited
and
special
areas
in
our
Nation’s
Capital.

OTTAWA,
ON, 28
May 2025
– The
Royal
Canadian

shared
the
history
of how
Canada’s
Tomb of
the
Unknown
Soldier
came to
be,
during a
special
Veterans
Affairs

(VAC)
event in
Ottawa
this
morning.
The
story
was part
of the
commemoration
that
took
place on
May 28th
– the
same day
the
soldier
was
originally
interred
in the
final

Pub Night at
the Perley
On March
19th,
Montgomery
sponsored
Pub
Night at
the Perley
Health
Centre.
It was a
great
success
thanks
to
“Karaoke
King”
Gerry
Pushman
and his
lovely
assistant
Terry.

There
were
over 50
residents
and
staff in
attendance.
It was
great to
see so
many of
them
singing
along,
clapping
and
grooving
to the
tunes.
There
were
even
some
brave
souls
who sang
solos
and
duets.
Many
residents
and
staff
commented
that it
was out
doubt
one of
the best
Pub
nights
they
have
had.
Also
thanks
to
Branch
members,
Lisa
Morris,
Luc
Chrétien,
Tim
Blanchard,
Brent
MacDonald
and Joan
McCorkell
who
ensured
everyone
had
drinks
and
plenty
of
snacks. |
